Thank you for posting this! There are a lot of popular cosplayers here on DeviantART that have totally ignored the problem. At my first convention I went as Bane from Dark Knight Rises and I saw these girls who were cosplaying Fairy Tail characters. I had never really seen the series but I recognized them as Lucy and Ezra and they were getting crap for wearing short shorts and tank tops! Hell I was dressed skimpier than they were and no one was giving me problems! Any how I stepped in and told told them to back the fuck off. Moral of the story: People these men and women are out there doing what they love and it is our job to tell these ass holes to back the fuck off before we stomp their ass because that shit aint right!

You write extremely well. To get into the Gaming industry as long as you are good at coding or art you will be able to get into the games industry, my tutor at university informed me how to get into it.

Its actually quite refreshing to know a female gamer will be getting into the industry because it is very male dominated field and that's why most games are targeted to males plus the stereotype i assume exists that more males buy games tbh. Good luck in getting into the field :)

Done and done. Exceptional read, Ms. Vera. Would honestly recommend submitting it to the Huffington Post or Jezebel. Both news sources/journalism sites have a pretty outstanding track record of posting articles that highlight those things which adversely affect women in Geek Culture.

I didn't realize that there was that kind of abuse in the world of coslpay. Great article by the way.

I read it and it's got me thinking about this thing all over again. I've seen two cosplayers I follow, one very recently, go through the abuse and it's really saddening to see.
